History of the Computer

1833 -Charles Babbage began work on the Analytical Engine.

He was, Known to some as the "Father of Computing" for his contributions to the basic design of the computer through his Analytical machine.

1936- During the Second World War Alan Turing and his team devised the first working computer. “The bombe”.

1950s – Computers where first commercially produced by IBM
IBM computer often cost as much as $9 million and required an air-conditioned quarter-acre of space and a staff of 60 people to keep it fully loaded with instructions.

1974 -Researchers at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center designed the Alto — the first work station with a built-in mouse for input. (see picture below)

1975 – First PC was produced for personal use.

1977 - Apple release the Apple II it was one of the first highly successful mass produced Microcomputer product, manufactured by Apple Computer (now Apple Inc.)

1980 - In July 1980, IBM representatives meet for the first time with Microsoft's Bill Gates to talk about writing an operating system for IBM's new hush-hush personal computer.

1984 - Apple Computer launched the Macintosh, the first successful mouse-driven computer with a graphic user interface, with a single $1.5 million commercial during the 1984 Super Bowl.
